How this Etsy fee calculator works

Sellers search for an Etsy fee calculator when they need a fast answer to “what do I actually keep?” Marketplace dashboards show history; pricing decisions need a forward-looking model. PlainCalc separates buyer-paid total, platform fees, and your costs so margin is visible before you hit Publish.

The transaction fee base is item price plus shipping charged (and gift wrap when applicable). Payment processing is modeled with US defaults of 3% + $0.25 on that order total. Listing fee is optional per sale. Offsite Ads are opt-in because they only apply to attributed orders. Your shipping cost and materials never go into Etsy’s percentage base in this model — they reduce profit after fees.

Why dated fee assumptions matter

Etsy raised its transaction fee to 6.5% in 2022; processing rates differ by payout country. Publishing an AS_OF date in our fee constants keeps this page honest when schedules change. If you sell from the UK, EU, Canada, or Australia, processing percentages and fixed fees differ — treat US defaults as a template and adjust expectations, or compare against your last Etsy statement.

Pricing tips that follow from the math

Free shipping still incurs transaction and processing fees on the item price alone, while you eat the label cost — model that with shipping charged at $0 and shipping cost filled in. Raising price by a dollar does not raise profit by a dollar; roughly 9.5%+ of the increase may go to transaction + processing before ads. Use the margin % to compare handmade vs. print-on-demand SKUs, and try our worked example: Etsy fees on a $50 sale.

Frequently asked questions

What fees does Etsy charge US sellers in 2026?

For US shops using Etsy Payments, typical fees include a $0.20 listing fee when you publish or renew a listing, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping you charge the buyer (and gift wrap if any), and payment processing of about 3% + $0.25 on the order total. Optional Offsite Ads and Etsy Ads can add more. Confirm current rates on Etsy’s official Fees & Payments Policy — PlainCalc’s defaults are dated assumptions, not a quote from Etsy.

Is the Etsy transaction fee charged on shipping?

Yes. Etsy’s transaction fee generally applies to the listing price plus the shipping amount you charge (and gift wrapping). Your actual shipping label cost is separate — enter it as shipping cost so net profit reflects both marketplace fees and fulfillment spend.

How do I calculate Etsy profit after fees?

Start with what the buyer pays (item + shipping charged). Subtract listing fee (if you allocate one sale’s share), transaction fee, payment processing, optional ads, material/COGS, and your true shipping cost. What remains is approximate net profit before income tax. Margin % = net profit ÷ order total.

Should I include the $0.20 listing fee on every sale?

Listing fees are charged when you list or renew, not necessarily once per sale. If an item sells once per listing period, including $0.20 is reasonable. If you sell many units from one listing, spread the fee or turn the toggle off for a per-order view. Multi-quantity renewals can re-trigger listing fees — check Etsy’s rules for your listing type.

What about Offsite Ads?

If a buyer purchases after clicking an Etsy Offsite Ad, Etsy may charge an additional percentage (commonly illustrated as 12% or 15% depending on shop history) on the attributed order, often with a per-order cap. Use the Offsite Ads dropdown only when modeling those orders; leave it off for organic sales.

Does this replace Etsy’s seller dashboard?

No. PlainCalc is an independent estimate for pricing and planning. Your Etsy payment account shows actual deductions. Currency conversion, taxes on fees, regulatory fees in some countries, and refunds can change the real number.
