How this eBay fee calculator works
eBay's headline cost is the final value fee — a percentage of the total amount the buyer pays (item price plus shipping you charge), plus a fixed per-order fee. Because eBay runs Managed Payments, that percentage already includes payment processing: there is no separate PayPal-style fee stacked on top. PlainCalc separates buyer-paid total, platform fees, and your costs so margin is visible before you list.
Two inputs deserve care. First, the FVF % is editable because category rates differ (books/media run higher; some categories cap out) and eBay adjusts the schedule periodically — the default is a dated no-store assumption, not a quote. Second, promoted listings: if you advertise, enter your ad rate; many sellers are surprised to learn their "fee" line was really ad spend.
Pricing tips that follow from the math
Because fees apply to shipping charged, inflating shipping to lower the item price does not dodge fees — the base is the same total. Free shipping shifts the fee base onto the item price while you absorb the label: model it with shipping charged at $0 and your real shipping cost filled in. Compare cross-listing with our Poshmark and Mercari calculators before choosing a platform.
For most US categories, eBay charges a final value fee (about 13.6% by default here, editable) on the item price plus shipping charged, plus a fixed per-order fee ($0.40 over $10, $0.30 at $10 or under). Category rates, store discounts, and promotions change the number — verify on eBay's official fees page.
Is payment processing included in eBay's final value fee?
Yes. Since eBay moved to Managed Payments, the final value fee percentage already includes payment processing. You do not add a separate card-processing fee on top.
Does eBay charge fees on shipping?
Yes — the final value fee applies to the total the buyer pays, including shipping charges. Your actual label cost is separate; enter it as your shipping cost so profit reflects both.
What is the per-order fee?
A fixed fee eBay adds to every completed order on top of the percentage: commonly $0.40 for orders over $10 and $0.30 for orders of $10 or less. On low-priced items it can take a meaningful bite out of margin.
How do promoted listings affect profit?
Promoted Listings Standard charges a percentage you set, only when the promoted listing sells. Enter your ad rate in the optional field — it comes out of the same pocket as fees, so healthy margins (15–30% after all costs) matter.
Can I lower my eBay fees?
An eBay Store subscription lowers rates in many categories, Top Rated Plus status earns a discount on the final value fee, and lean promoted-listing rates help. The base cut is fixed — sourcing cost is usually the bigger lever.
